The Ghost Is Dancing

What the hell is the deal with Canadians recently? To semi-butcher a Jay Leno joke from last night, seems like every time you get a bunch of Canadians together, they manage to create amazing music...unless of course you get 12 Canadians together, then they just wanna play hockey--ZING!...sorry... Anyways, the former is the case for The Ghost Is Dancing, a band I stumbled across on MySpace recently. The 7 member band released a self-titled EP in November, which was met with some pretty positive reviews:

"The Ghost is Dancing shares a place with other Canadian acts such as The Arcade Fire, Of Montreal, and Wolf Parade in their sound...Each of their songs, while unique, follow down the same garden path into the dark woods at night where the tempo drives us into a frenzy before finding the trail back home at last." - Online Epiphany

I'd say their music has much of the same energy as Q And Not U and the aforestated Canadian ensembles, esp. Broken Social Scene. I've heard their live shows are spectacular, "a raucus, joyous Indie Carnival", with funny hat contests on top of the undoubted spectacle of their performance. I got a chance to play email-tag with Jim DeLuca, the band's singer and guitarist (at least one of them), who tells me that they've got a limited tour right now with a few dates in Canada, and they're currently working on an album for which a date has not yet been set. When I find out more about an expanded tour or album info, I'll let you all know, but until then enjoy these songs:

The Ghost Is Dancing - The Running Song (Highly Rec'd)
The Ghost Is Dancing - People (Highly Rec'd)

You can listen to 2 more tracks at their myspace site.
