So...you know that little teaser demo I hosted for our 100th Post Extravaganza? Well, this is another little teaser...only it's an actual track off The Vines' new album, Vision Valley, which is due to hit shelves April 3rd. It's one minute and eighteen seconds long, but every single one of those 78 seconds is worth the time:
[MP3] The Vines - Gross Out
It's a little hard to tell how the new LP will turn out based solely on that song...I'm sure it's not exactly the pinnacle of the album...I really liked Highly Evolved when it came out like 27 years ago, so hopefully with all that time the boys have gotten their respective shit together to produce another great album. I do, however, feel that this next song meets those expectations...so here's a not-so-hot-quality stream of the other new song (the studio version of the previously hosted demo):
[STREAM] The Vines - Don't Listen To The Radio
That's more like it...except for their hardy-har-har insistence on tossing the lyric "get outtathaway today!" into the chorus...It's a little too soon for campy throwbacks, ain't it?
In other news, Pitchfork likes B/S...I'm not too surprised I guess, but I will say that I think the complete opposite of their new album...what do you think?

yay! i was waiting for one of mmy more technically-competent blog friends to convert the stream to mp3. i heard this on their website and liked it. thank you!
First things first, this has become my favorite blog. I can always expect top notch MP3s. Second, Finally someone agrees with me on the new Belle. I miss the good ol days
I've only heard another sunny day and we are sleepyheads and the latter is quite addicting. I'm still going to buy it though even with its differences, it IS b&s after all.

Oh, B + S. Is it rude of me to say I miss the days when their sound production was poorer? Stuart's lyrics work so well when the whole package sounds like AM radio.
On the other hand, there's still interesting stuff going on lyrically with The Life Pursuit. I plan to buy it.
I like the b&s, different than the old sound though
let those scots be. the new record is the best thing they've done since fido was a pup.
thanks heaps for The Vines tune, have used it here on my blog :)

Like you, I think the new Belle and Sebastian is just terrible. It reminds me of the Monkees or shite the Brady Bunch or Partridge family might sing towards the end of an episode, stupid smiles on their faces. I can't believe all these people who claim an interest in/knowledge of quality music are giving it positive reviews. It's just so very very bad.
