...and by that I am no doubt referring to the upcoming release of Fingerlings 3 by the talented, energizing, not-to-mention fashionable violin connoisseur Andrew Bird. While you sit and wonder what just might be written in that red composition notebook he's reading, I'll add some filler in the background: Bird's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, he's clearly a fairly brilliant guy, and he puts on one of the most amazing shows you'll ever see. His music has been sheepishly described by some as (I'm paraphrasing here) Final Fantasy 2.0, but it's actually of a whole different breed that Owen Pallett's (not to imply that it's in any way "better"). It's just...different; smart, complex, fun, moving, layered genius...
Fingerlings 3 is most definitely a 2006 essential. It's hard to place this among the best albums of the year knowing that it's not really a "new" album, more a collection of studio outtakes, as-of-yet unreleased live tracks, and other songs. Regardless, whether you're a die-hard Bird fan or a curious, unenlightened hipster, you need to own this album. Check it out:

This was the first thing that I read after I woke up on Saturday morning and it really made my day even that early on. AB is incredible and I'm so excited for the new album.

Wait a minute here, calling Andrew Bird "Final Fantasy 2.0" is a very different proposition than calling Final Fantasy "a lesser Andrew Bird"... Or am I just confused here?
AB has been playing the violin since he was four and has played with numerous philharmonic orchestras. Plus he is not canadian :)

The Water Jet Cilice is probably one of the most beautiful songs ever made by Mr. Bird!
