New Elliott Smith Album!!!!!!

Thanks to Puddlegum for being on top of this!

Oh GOD!! I can barely contain myself right now, but I'll try to explain like the journalist I'm not... apparently Kill Rock Stars, Elliott's first label, is releasing a new album on 3.17.07 containing both previously released b-sides AND unreleased material (perhaps what was left over from the FABOTH sessions?). Here's what Charlie Ramirez, webmaster of SweetAdeline.com, had to say:

"It is still too early to know what is exactly on it but I know that it will cover unreleased songs from Elliott's KRS years, and might include previously released music but like bsides or even alternative versions of songs. They are in the process of working on it and I know Larry Crane is planning to be a part of it as well. He will probably go to L.A. to listen to some of Elliott's work that is in storage and see if there is anything he can use."

This is unbelievable... I knew Elliott's family was very protective of his unreleased songs, specifically songs like "Abused" from the FABOTH sessions because of their lyrical content...but this is unbelievably amazing. I know the repercussions for producing an album from an artist who's no longer living (2pac, anyone?)...but if they leave well enough alone and don't deviate too much from what Elliott had in mind (or already had recorded), this could be (and probably will be regardless) a beautiful album... and maybe his last?

Here are a few b-sides that *might* make their way onto the record:

[MP3] Elliott Smith - Angel In The Snow
[MP3] Elliott Smith - Taking A Fall
[MP3] Elliott Smith - New Disaster
[MP3] Elliott Smith - Stained Glass Eyes
[MP3] Elliott Smith - Cecilia/Amanda

I'm kind of with Ed on this one. I have a huge pile of Elliott b-sides now (which I LOVE), so I can only imagine the disc will cover the same songs. Either way it is great news for fans.

Ed and BWH999, all the songs I posted are previously released (obviously, how else would I have them?). Apparently the album will be a mix of songs like those AND "new" previously-unheard material from his KRS days.

I doubt a lot of 'new' songs will be on there...but it's still good news obviously. Even better though? FOUR NEW ELLIOTT SONGS surfaced over at Elliott Smith B-Sides today...including "True Love"!!

but see the thing you guys don't understand is that the quality of the recordings will be better, just like "basmenet on a hill" they will clean it up alot. It will probably sound alot cleaner, although I do enjoy lo-fi very much.
