Pitchfork recently "profiled" Catbird Records in what had the original intent of being a review for Reading, England's Tap Tap, which I'll for the time being label as a raspy folky version of every awesome band to come out of Canada since 2004. The "review," I'll admit, did limitedly profile the band as well, but most of the praise was directed at Ryan Catbird, editor/writer/webmaster/whatever of the great blog Catbirdseat as well as his aforementioned weblabel/imprint/something-or-other.
Nathaniel and I have actually thought about/discussed the idea of an imprint under some sort of "IGIF" domain, the possibility of such, and I suppose the thought is still resonating somewhere in the back of both our minds...there are certainly more than enough great unsigned bands to harvest (figuratively, duh), but I'm sure "success" in an imprint is hard to acheive. But with a band like Tap Tap (not to mention fellow Catbird labelmate Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin), success isn't too far off in the horizon.
[MP3] Tap Tap - 100,000 Thoughts
Tap Tap is not yet a great band...but they have the makings of one. They show a massive amount of promise and potential. Their control over their music, for instance, and its output is phenomenal. There are some things, like recording quality and I suppose maybe the entire mastering/producing efforts on their debut Lanzafame could have been much better, but everything on the creative side of the equation (not to undermine the creativity of some producers/mixers) is there. The songs are rich albeit "noisy" and fairly unique. I'm not usually one to make stupid "listen if you like" comparisons or "this plus that" amalgamations, but if you imagine a combination of Beirut and Sunset Rubdown, you won't be too far off of Tap Tap's path.
[MP3] Tap Tap - Way To Go, Boyy
If you like what you heard, please head over to Catbird Records to buy Tap Tap's Lanzafame for just $7!! Completely worth it.

That Tap Tap review includes probably the most WTF-inducing Pitchfork moment ever:
"Whatever, though, I could listen to Sanders sing "can't" like "Kant" all day, and all of the night."
And they get paid for this.
[Not to mention that to some of us, Mr Pitchfork Writer's American way of pronouncing "can't" is the unusual one.]
do you have a download link for the album? and...would you mind posting it?
i could only find one on yousendit, but "file doesn't exist". i'd be very thankful
