It's a gloomy day in Kentucky, although it finally appears we're caught in the midst of that slow transition from Winter to Spring. Aside from the gloomy weather, today has also been incredibly slow paced. You know.. the days that seem to last an enternity? In an effort to make this gloomy weather go by faster, I've enlisted Pete Droge's somber voice to add a soothing soundtrack to the day.
First things first: Pete Droge is not a new kid on the block. He's been making music since 1994 and has released five solo albums, his latest Under The Waves was released last summer. He went through the whole major-label fiasco stint and garnered enough attention to start his own label called Puzzle Tree Records. His latest record extends deeper into the soothing genre of folk music, which his dark voice seems sing terrifically.
[MP3] Pete Droge - Under The Waves
This song goes to prove you can make a solid track without going overboad on heavy instrumentation, big budget production, and endless mixing. The guitar is effortlessly simple, but coupled with a lingering echo effect adds a polish to the song that actually sounds as haunting as the ocean.

I think I may have bought his first album after hearing If You Don't Love Me I'll Kill Myself back in my student days. It's a fine album, but I sort of lost track of him after that. Thanks for this!
