Brett Dennen: "Blessed"

Brett Dennen has a peculiar voice. His voice, perhaps best described as a blend of reggae influenced Marley, earthley humble Xavier Rudd, and the shakily smooth Sean Hayes, has helped him achieve hoards of fans and turn the heads of all those unfamiliar. Those who have their heads turned by Dennen will never look away, his timeless music would paint landscapes just as easily in 1973 as it would in 2007. John Mayer said that "he may get lumped in with the Jack Johnson feel-good/barefoot thing, but he's so much different than that." Different indeed, his lyrics are serene and his light guitar work are both dazzling and catchy.

Sure, he belongs to a group of people who comprise less than 2% of the human race, but this "Red Head" outta Oakdale, CA conveys a message in his songs that are a breath of fresh air to a (general) music scene displaying a common theme of forced lyrics. His folk roots have been tinged with a paragon of pop bliss that'll immediately invoke a feeling of happiness similar to that of popping a handful of milk chocolate morsels in your mouth. Unlike chocolate, however, Dennen is anything but messy - outputting a clean sound that earned a part of "Blessed" being featured on a Hilton commerical and landing an opening gig for Mayer's summer tour that'll give his fanbase a shot in the arm. Dennen has staying power that makes me extremely anxious and hopeful for future releases, always a good thing for a young singer with hoards of potential.
