Thanks to Loudersoft for wondering the same thing we were after Sunday night's episode of The Sopranos: "What the hell was that song?" Loudersoft did some digging so we didn't have to and uncovered a title and artist: "Evidently Chickentown," a jokingly-poetic electro-punk track from the lesser known punk pioneer John Cooper Clarke. Check it:
[MP3] John Cooper Clarke - Evidently Chickentown
Out of context this song may seem a little strange, but for the closing moments of The Sopranos' 79th episode, nothing could have been more fitting. Tony's on edge, Chris is being tugged in all directions by his own familial responsibilities, his new entrepreneurial digs, and his obligations to The Family... the inseperable pair have never seemed more distant, although I guess it was only a matter of time.
Any thoughts on how it's all gonna end?

Hahahahaha. Wow. I was listening to "Thou Shalt Always Kill" a few hours ago and my mom walked in, noting that it sounded a lot like "the song on Sopranos;" then she had me go downstairs and listen to it (glorious DVR). After assuring her it wasn't Dans Le Sac vs. Scroobios Pip, I come back up to find this. Thank you.
Tony's gonna kill chrissy?
Chris'll kill Tony?
some fucking battle is coming though, and this song is the perfect war march.
No 420 post? I'm disappointed.
I saw John Cooper-Clark live once. At Leeds (UK) University, 21 January, 1979. He might have been from Manchester, but he was ok.
thanks!
good tv show. song's not that great though
maybe the movie "cleaver" will be a huge hit and chris will look like a pioneer, motivating him to want to become boss. and only tony will be in his way.

Chickentown sounds all wrong with "bloody" instead of "fucking" - much weaker somehow. Don't know why he recorded it like that when it's never "bloody" live.
