The Believer magazine's yearly music issue for June/July 2007 is out now, containing a 20-track CD compiled by Pitchfork's Brandon Stosuy. It features a number of excellent tracks including an alternate version of Grizzly Bear's gem "Easier," a rare I'm With Barcelona track, and this beautiful track from Beirut's prodigial frontman Zach Condon:
[MP3] Zach Condon - Venice
"Venice" sounds like a direct relative of many of the songs released by Condon in 2001 under the moniker "The Real People" (a few of which we featured here). The downtempo electronica is just about subtle enough to put me to sleep, but the horns that come in do well to give the song some flare. Condon's typically hard-to-decipher vocals are here in full form (and I mean full), demonstrating the eccentric romanticism we've come to love. Might this be a new direction, or just Condon reminiscing to his "Real" days? Either way, it's nice to see that, after the disastrous Pompeii EP, he's still got the gift.
Pick up a copy of Believer's 2007 Music Issue (w/ CD) for just $10.

god i hope he takes this route on his new album. my favorite songs of his on his debut were scenic world and the last song, both of which use some electro stuff. and yeah, that real people shit is awesome too
"the disastrous Pompeii EP"
Very harsh given that it was recorded well before Gulag Orkestar.
