The Police (feat. John Mayer & Kanye West): "Message In A Bottle"

I'd say that most people traded in their Saturday morning cartoons to watch large portions of Al Gore's musical movement to make the world aware of global warming. I had a rather lethargic Saturday and got to catch most of the day-long concert and (for the most part) there were some really great performances. I could probably highlight a different performance everyday for the next week, but I've gotta knock out the obvious slice of perfection pie first.

Scene: The Police are onstage rockin' out and then Sting calls up their good friend: John Mayer. The guitar work gets even better (obviously) and then Sting calls up another good friend: Kanye West. Of course just seeing all of them onstage at the same time, playing the same song, not even knowing if the collaboration would even sound good makes you mutter, "Holy $@#&!" For the record, it sounded pretty decent.

[MP3] The Police - Message In A Bottle (feat. John Mayer & Kanye West) [Live]

First off, this was the PERFECT song to play for a concert with the theme "SOS" being shown/mentioned throughout the entire today. Secondly, I wonder if John Mayer got out there with Sting and started playing his guitar and thought, "Man, this kicks Guitar Hero's ass!" Thirdly, whether or not Kanye was freestyling or had a few minutes backstage to come up with some lines or not - he achieved an impressive feat. "And I'm gonna tell you Sting cause I should / Sting, you the only police that's good in the hood" was the clever line that made me nod my head in approval. It was a collaboration that I didn't see coming and one of the more enjoyable, albeit interesting, performances all day - don't be suprised if Kanye gets Sting to collaborate on a new track.

Watch the live performance!

Well, I'd have to say the song was perfect until Kanye ruined it by randomly yelling out "yeah, yeah" which was so annoying i was wishing that someone would drag him off stage. After he completed his freestyle he should have just shut up and let the Police finish their song but he kept yelling random stuff throughout the entire thing which made my eye twitch beacuse of the lack of timing.

Yea, Sting didn't even seem to know who Kanye was, he called him Kane and looked annoyed the entire time he was out. I thought it was one of the most bizarre bad sounding mashups since that Superbowl thing with Nelly, Aerosmith, Britney and NSync

yeah, i enjoyed his verse but the intermittent screaming after did get on my nerves.

I like some songs on Kanye's two albums, but in all honesty he's just not that good of an mc. He really should stick to producing

I really hope Kanye was making that stuff up off the top of his head, because I was not impressed with his content and especially did not dig his simple delivery. He had a great beat and sample to rap over, and he didn't grab the beat and flow like an experienced MC should, I thought. I'm very much for acts getting together, but at the end, after he was done his "verse," he seemed to think it was the Kanye show, with The Police as a guest, as opposed to vice versa.

K, who was that saying Kanye was talented? Holy Shit!> my wife and i were driving home, and this came on XM, and we nearly merged ou car right into the Potomac. What the hell, boys, what the hell?

K looked like a buffoon up there with the Police and JM. Dude, if you can't think of a way to contribute at the end of the song then SHUT UP. BTW, Madonna needs to go back to her English castle and call it a career. She is sooooo yesterday.

I was more pleasantly surprised with Gogol Bordello's participation in "la isla bonita". Ok, maybe it's because I adore that crazy band...

That 'collaboration' was so bad I think it gave me cancer.

Oh God, Kanye ruined. Also, Sting looked less than impressed with his intermittent grunts.

Everyone is echoing my sentiments on this.... I tuned in with interest to hear the Police and was instead turned away by the abomination that I heard. He evidently didn't get the message - or the bottle for that matter.

John Mayers participation in the background was awesome by adding chiming guitar chords. Kanye West on the other hand is an unecessary garbage that ruined the entire thing.

kanye RUINED the song absolutely and gave a horrible face to rap.

cmon EVERYONE knows that song and even if he was freestyling he should be able to do better if he is a real rapper.

i heard idiots on the white rapper show do better freestyle than that!

yealling UH and YEA and UH and YEA is no basis for stage particiaption. you might as well pout george bush up there and it would be just as ironic and stupid.

kanye looked like a fool, at least john mayer was useful.

i wish i could take back downloading the audio rip before watching.

You can change the original blog now. As you can read in the reactions NOBODY liked this Kanye or whatever is name is, so maybe your television was broken or something? My opinion: I was hoping the whole time that Sting would push this guy off the stage. I hate these rapguys that think they are impressive, when all they have done is steal someone else's music and shout rude language over it. That Kanye hasnt even made one song that is even a little bit comparable to what The Police gave us and doesnt deserve the credit.

Kanye RUINED that song. It was so obvious that they even turned his mic down towards the end there. He has NO business being on the stage with real musicians, it just makes everyone look stupid. And even if he was freestyling, that is no excuse for the terrible rhymes that were thrown up out of his mouth, plus one of the 6 lines he said he mentioned that Al Gore gets his vote. Good one Kanye, you're voting for him because he's running, right?

Hello,

The comments posted about GW Williams are part of a viral marketing campaign. This person has a home-made recording on Amazon.com. You can listen to samples and see why it's clear that they had to resort to this sort of thing.
The reference to Eric Clapton seems to be drawing him in.
Please feel free to delete this entry along with his.
This seems like a nice place. It's too bad he's decided to invade it.
We've been doing battle with him and his multiple personalities on Topix. There are several indications in his posts and IP addresses that point to him being incarcerated quite possibly at Folsom prison near Sacramento.

Again, I apologize for barging in. Please feel free to block me and this other person as well.
