So I've decided not to go to Pitchfork's annual music festival this year, for the principle reason that the line-up generally sucks. Sure, it would be cool to see Yoko Ono, and the New Pornos and Grizzly Bear are always fun live, but let's be honest: this year's line-up seriously pales in comparison to last year's... as well as this year's Virgin Music Festival in Baltimore on Aug. 4th and 5th.
The show that already promised The Smashing Pumpkins, The Police, Interpol, Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang, Girl Talk, Regina Spektor, and Modest Mouse (among many others) has just announced three more bands to finalize the festival's already plump schedule: Explosions In The Sky, Dan Deacon, and , sigh, the dickless, make-up wearing, emo-exuding rockers Panic At The Disco. Rejoice!

[MP3] Dan Deacon - Snake Mistakes
Are any of you making the trip to MD with me? If you spot me in the crowd, I'll buy you a drink!

the pitchfork lineup generally sucks. really? i would much rather spend 60 or so bucks on the pitchfork fest than drop 175 on the vigin fest. althought the vigin fest has some good stuff, there is a lot of crap to wade through.
Plus, you know all the tail you'll pull there is sexually inexperienced. Virgins, dude, really?
Nice Dan Deacon post! I can dig it.
Thanks for the Explosions track! Love that band.
But SLINT is gonna play "Spiderland" in its entirety at Pitchfork on the 13th. C'mon. That's pretty cool.
That Slint comment was me.

Come on, you gotta put the Panic! At The Disco. Panic! That exclamation point makes it all the worse, my friend.
yeah i'll admit it would be awesome to see slint and sonic youth do their whole "full album" thing. and the price is a good point, it's a fairly cheap festival (minus hotel + travel).
in regards to the exclamation point after Panic.... I'm just glad I didn't know there was supposed to be one there.
or did you and this is all an elaborate scheme to hide your love for the band with reverse psychology?
I agree that pitchfork's lineup isn't as awesome as last year but you still can't beat the price! Also there aren't may acts that I really really don't want to see, every other festival seems to have tons of acts where I'd rather gouge my eyes out and plug up my ears than see (I.E. - Panic!). All in all it's a tuff call to choose which festival to attend each year.
Bought my 2-day ticket the day they went on sale (mostly 'cause Baltimore is an hour away, as opposed to the better festivals that would be 7 or more). And I think I'll give P!ATD a miss. Oh and parking is $60, but I'm hoping Regina Spektor and Explosions will be more than worth it.

You're forgetting the GZA too. I know you like it, being a New Englander. You have to.
Sonic Youth, GZA, Slint, Clipse, Grizzly Bear, Battles, Califone, Twilight Sad, New Pornographers, MALKMUS, Of Montreal, Jamie Lidell, Junior Boys, Deerhunter, Menomena, and the Ponys
Yeah, that sucks.
ok anon, I'll explain:
I've seen Grizzly Bear twice, Deerhunter many times in Providence before Pitchfork made him cool for hipsters to like, New Pornos once, and The Ponys once (the latter of which I could care less about).
I don't care for Jamie Lidell, Junior Boys, The Twilight Sad, and Califone (who is boring on CD, so must be impossibly boring live).
I'm seeing Menomena on the 13th in NYC for free, I'm seeing Battles on the 20th at Studio B, and GZA will be with Wu-Tang at the Virgin Fest.
So perhaps it sucks from my point of view, having seen many of those bands and not caring about many of them. Or perhaps you're still failing to realize how much better last year's P4K line-up was.
I guess I can live with that explanation. Although you're missing out on Jamie Lidell. Big time.
ok, i'll give jamie another shot
The Virgin Fest is picking up a lot of heat this year....if I was in the Midwest I'd be happy to see "Sonic Youth, GZA, Slint, Clipse, Grizzly Bear, Battles, Califone, Twilight Sad, New Pornographers, MALKMUS, Of Montreal, Jamie Lidell, Junior Boys, Deerhunter, Menomena, and the Ponys..."etc
I'll be there, and you'll be buying me a drink!
I went to Virgin last year too, and enjoyed it. It's all in all a good time.
PANIC! ROCKS AND YOU KNOW IT!!! Yo're just jealous that you don't have and wil NEVER have as much talent as them. ANd they're NOT EMO! They're rock/alternative. Everyone has an oppinion. If you don't like panic, fine. Dont bash them for no reason. G-SUS!
This person is right. Panic! is totally not emo and they are a great band. I think that what you have said is totally wrong.
I concur with the two people above.
kay, reviewer, Panic! is way more than that, so please go make the world a better place and jump off a cliff.
Thank you.
and for the record,
Panic! is a great band, they work hard to put together CDs and peroformances.
Panic! is ftw.
Dude, what are you talking about?! Panic is a GREAT band. Their music and lyrics are awesome and they always put on a fun show!
You're either blind...deaf..or dumb...maybe all.
Hhahaha. This is funny. PANIC! IS AMIAZING!!!!!!! Im rick james....
Only Ryan is dickless. He's an ugly she-boy. Yup.
lol@ryan being dickless
truedat
hahahaha
*cough* poor ry. its not his fault. we're sopposed to be showing this guy up. not pointing out the ones he was right about >.< *cough*
dude, your so jealous that Panic! is so awesome, and you're probably some internet dork.
Besides, have you seen enough of them to say they are dickless?
Thought so.
Kthanks.
rant over
Is it necessary to add in your own little opinion about a band? I think not. Also I'm sure they have bigger dicks than you have.
uh oh, looks like the panic fanboys and fangirls found IGIF.
you don't like what I have to say about your band? then don't read it.
i'm entirely entitled to my opinion, and of this particular band I do have one, and that's that they suck. If you don't want to call it emo, you're just lying to yourselves.
now I'd guess that most of you who've just commented have an avg age about >16, so I'll just leave you with the notion of how in a few years you'll look back on your unwavering support of such bands and shake your heads in embarrassment.
my advice: stop listening now.

blow me
its 175 bucks to go to Virgin Fest? wow. it wasnt that much to go to Summerfest. well, it ended up being over 200 for my family because we bought four tickets for the Marcus (to see panic!), thats 175 there, plus another 50 for parking (they sent us the wrong date the first time). but its not near that much if you dont plan on going to see a band in the marcus. if you get there before 8 AM you get in free...and this year they let you in free from 12-4 on the last day.
SCUSE ME! I'm definatly 21 years old. But w/e floats ur boat dude.
*talks to panic fans* ten bucks says he threw the toilet paper at ross...
Well the TPing of Ross was kinda funny. But there's no excuse for being an asshole to people who dare to be different
you're 21 and you like panic at the disco?
*Sighs*
How do I make my point, defend Panic!, and stay mature...hmm.
How about this.
You may be entitled to your opinion but what you said went a little too far. I respect that you don't like the band but there's no need to call them dickless and emo's and whatever.
However...you didn't think of that before you posted and now you got all the Panic! boardies (minus me...I still think it was rather amusing) against you. I guess that just sucks to be you.
And btw? They might wear make-uo, but they pull it off bettere then any guy out there. Not only that, they're talented musicians, whether you care to think so or not.
They don't need your aproval.
-Chipit The Emo Vampire
also, where are all you guys coming from? i'm guessing a link from a panic at the disco message board or something?
maybe, maybe not! wat-zit-tu-ya? huh? huh? thats what i thought. IM RICK JAMES, BITCH!!!!
Panic! news travels fast.
There's a thread about it on the boards.
And everyone kind came over O.o
It's really stupid tho.
Cuz no one can keep their dignity when defending a band.
The way to do it is NOT to say
"Panic! owns you you fucker!"
-Chipit The Emo Vampire
chipit, I appreciate your civil response. Here's mine:
You will likely never find a reader of this blog who likes Panic's music. You will also never see me mentioning the band in any legitimate, critical way, basically because I wouldn't dare waste my breath (I'd be preaching the choir).
Except for right now. If there's one remotely positive thing I can say about this band, it's that they're definitely attempting to sound different from most popular, mostly emo bands. The use of the violin plucking at the beginning of IWSNT, for example, is very inventive for that type of music. Still, I really really dislike that genre: it's simple, the lyrics are drab, immature, and above all cliche, and really they're just another Fall Out Boy, only with more "style" and more musical variation.
Feel free to like the band if you so choose, I respect individual tastes in music. Still, this is an indie music blog-- most of the stuff here is far from conventional (where, in the big scheme of things, Panic IS the convention). I can write stupid side comments like "dickless, emo-exuding rockers" and not expect any lashback because most people agree with my half-assed assessment.
by "most people" i mean most of our readers
oh hell no! #1. ITS AN EFFIN CHELLO! (yeahibeenthere!)#2 I know you didn't say ryan's lyrics are drab and cliche. He is the most poetic person EVER!
-Rick James =)
Well...in return I appreciate you not biting my head off.
And frankly, I've never even heard of this blog but everyone was like "Why are you defending this guy? Go spam!" So I came...read it for myself, and then respoded in a way I feel fit.
Panic! are very original as you've said, and even their lyrics are quite interesting at times. A quick example "Time To Dance" writen about a fabulous (sp?) book.
But, like you said, individual music taste is fine so if you don't like Panic! I think this is where the argument (or lack there of between the two of us at least) should end.
And I'm sure you didn't expect backlash from the regualr bloggers, but I guess something is to be expected if a boardie gets a hold of this information.
Now, I'm running out of things to say to your responce but, again, you surprised me. I expected you to bite my head off.
And btw. 16 is a bit too old. I'm 13, but deffinatly not a teenie.
-Chipit The Emo Vampire
ok not violins, point taken, but it's spelled "cello"
panic rocks your socks off.
for sure.
Dude, I'm 19 and I listen to Panic!
Gots a problem with that?
Whoa...
Someone just pointed out to me that it wasn't a violin at the beggining. I wasn't really paying much attention to that part of the post.
But I bellieve it's a cello.
-Chipit The Emo Vampire
Yet another post but I feel it nessesary.
Ryan is NOT the most poetic person ever.
His lyrics may be good (imo) and may have meaning, but he is NOT the most poetic person ever.
-Chipit The Emo Ampire
Rick James needs to stfu.
And Chippy Chip Chip is perfectly correct.... But Ryan still doesn't have a dick.
ok chip, you got me =) butuknowiloveryro! i cant help it =)
-rick james
oh. spelling error. now i sound like a dork. i think we should end this aurgument (eventhoughistartedit) and be best friends forever!
okay peope have their different opinions. lets just keep it at that. Yes I know panic! at the Disco is a teenie bopper band but guess what? That was nt their intention. Nor did they want to be mainstream. It was just the way things turned out. But what you said wasn't civil yourself...infact it was as immature as some oh the backlash comments people are saying.
My advise?
keep your comments to yourself and you wont get this trouble again. Thanks and I appreciate your feedback, nonetheless it was quite rude.

You know, I understood less than half of that. Still thought it was cool to see how Google maps is put together. We use it all the time now, instead of Yahoo, when we have some driving to do.
