Federico Aubele: "Corazon"

Federico Aubele has a name that rolls off your tongue, similar to how his music smoothly rolls into your ears. Upon first listen to his debut or freshly released follow-up Panamericana you'll fall victim to conjuring up comparisons to Thievery Corporation. Indeed, it was the same comparison I made only to find out that he's (rightfully) signed to Thievery Corporation's ESL Music label and they produced both albums! You can give a production team lots of credit in today's industry, but you and I both would be ignorant if we disregarded Federico's impressive guitar work and knack for crafting great melodies.

[MP3] Federico Abuele - Corazon

Federico states that the majority of his musical influences come from the American countries: dub/reggae from Jamaica, Mexican bolero, Argentine tango, and old-school US hip-hop. It's hard to imagine cramming so many cultures into one musician's spectrum of creativity, but Federico is demonstrating that being a "melting pot musician" can definitely work. Each of the 13 tracks on Panamericana offers up something great to delve into, but "Corazon" has something immediately appealing about it. The opening guitar is as soothing as can be, then the beat kicks up and the Calexico-contributed brass section blares along accordingly. The Spanish-sung tracks may not be for everyone, but Federico's music is a pleasant blend of old world charm and modern day rhythm that anyone can enjoy.
