Here's another one that seemed to escape the sort of press it deserved: Kid Dakota's third album, A Winner's Shadow, was released March 11th on Speakerphone Records without so much as a whisper in mainstream press outlets. It's a shame, too, with an album showcasing songs as strong as this one:
[MP3] Kid Dakota - Stars
The familiarly hook-laden jam these boys have set before us is arguably nothing new, and in a constantly evolving scene such as this one (where fans are always looking for something new and different so they can be the first to recommend it to their friends and coworkers) songs like this typically go unnoticed. "Stars" crescendos in a way you might expect every other Coldplay song to but it does so without the suggestive preamble and, perhaps just as satisfying, without the inversive... that is, it floats along both above and below expectations, driven by stray atmospheric note plucks and a warm echo that's just about as pleasing as any "next big thing" might be to satiate today's fix, even if you move on to something totally different tomorrow.
