I just got back from D.C. and, boy oh boy, had I forgotten how fantastic that city is. There really isn't any other city like it and I had quite the ball taking in the sights, sounds, people, and beer this past weekend. I'm going to unpack and take a brief nap to recharge my batteries but I heard an interesting news bit via Sirius radio on my way home (that I obviously missed while out of the loop and inside the Beltway).
Arcade Fire (Funeral, Neon Bible) are teaming up with writer/director Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko, Southland Tales) to score his upcoming film The Box. Talk about your eyes and ears being dually pleased! The partnership has been hush-hush for quite some time but the proverbial can of worms was accidently opened by producer Marcus Dravs via a blog post on his website, "Having finished Coldplay's forthcoming album 'Viva La Vida' - now off to Canada to work with Arcade Fire on a soundtrack for the forthcoming Richard Kelly film." Oops? They wrapped filming in February and are seeking a release for later this year. You can read all about the film's plot (starring Cameron Diaz and James Marsden) which is based off the Richard Matheson short story "Button, Button".

im a bit confused about this story, but apparently it seems like they're not actually doing the whole soundtrack. :(
...but Win and Owen Pallett might be doing a couple of instrumental tracks for use in the movie. :)
This is where I found this out:

yeah, Pitchfork reported and and clarified the story last week.
Here's what Win says:
"Hi everyone. Hope you are having a great spring... just to let you all know that (internet-based fact checking aside) Arcade Fire is NOT doing the soundtrack to any film. We are all off for the summer, writing songs, reading books, and keeping our plants alive. Regine, Owen Pallet [sic] and I may do an instrumental piece or two for Richard Kelly's new movie...we met at a show this year and hit it off, but we are not planning on doing any major work for a while, and this would not constitute a soundtrack or a release."
The Twilight Zone , did this plot years ago..
Raaandom question, but, since you seem to know D.C. well and I do ever so love the blog: do you know of any great places to check for shows? I'm spending two-plus months there this summer and would love to catch a show or two while I'm there. I saw Black Cat in the post before this one, but any other good recommendations? =)
