[MP3] The Grey Race: "On the Chin"

The Grey Race is a fitting name for this three piece claiming Brooklyn as their point of origin. Grey may not be the best description of their sound but if there is a better color that embodies dark, moody music with lifting melodies then you may want to inform Crayola. All analyzation of the ROYGBIV spectrum aside, this group quickly came onto the music scene in late 2007 with an EP and debut LP (Give It Love) released months apart from one another. All three group members come from different regions of the world, their most influential sound stemming from lead singer Jon's childhood discovery of The Cure's "10:15 on a Saturday Night" while a lad in New Zealand. The influences from The Cure and Rufus Wainwright are fully audible in the melodic rock tune "On the Chin" - a charmingly simple song with solid vocals and a catchy chorus that vaguely reminds me of Keane to an extent. Dig in and get lost in the strings.
