[MP3] The Old Believers: "No More" / "Granny's Song"

"That ole house was a home of mine, that ole house was a home of mine!" -"Granny's Song"

The Old Believers are not old, at least not age-wise. This male/female duo is on the borderline of leaving their teenage years behind and entering their twenties, however what they lack in "old age" they more than make up for with their old souls. Nelson Kempf's and Keeley Boyle's old souls exude a moody brand of music with delicately crafted melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and a rustic feel that's incredibly inviting. Their sound, like many other artists, had been heavily influenced by life experiences and prior musical influences like Belle & Sebastian and Patsy Cline.

When the bright-eyed couple left their Alaskan home and drove the winding roads that led them to Idaho and (currently) Portland, Oregon they took with them a sound reliant on multi-tasking; two young musicians creating sounds of an entire ensemble with guitars, harmonicas, foot stomping, tambourines, and accordions. They do it all themselves and undoubtedly captivate entire audiences with their radiant, empowering performances. Relationships that result in incredibly enticing music are quite the listening spectacle and this young duo definitely have a lengthy career ahead of them. Check out two of my favorite tracks from their upcoming release Eight Golden Greats (due out July 10th) - one with charming female vocals, the other with a strong male lead reminiscent of an eerie Jim James. Both, however, are fabulous tracks that take traditional folk sounds and clash them with modern innovation.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I was immediately seduced by these songs and downloaded all I could find. They are wonderful, especially for such a young duo. Yet another reason I will always turn to you for new music.
