[News] Brian Wilson To Release New LP Sept. 2nd

If I you have any spare crayons laying around, preferably washable, then you can color me officially excited. Awhile ago I had briefly mentioned Brian Wilson's hopes to record his new LP titled That Lucky Old Sun. When you're one of pop music's most iconic, skillful, and brilliant composers of all time, you don't have to wait long for a hopeful sentiment to become a musical reality. What a great thing that is too, anytime you can get the once reclusive Wilson to get those crazy harmonies and arrangements out of his head and onto a record it's definitely a good thing. Hell, I'd be (way more than) a little "nutty" too if I had a fraction of the music in my head that Wilson has produced during his musical career.

When Wilson originally set out to record his latest album he said, "Smile had a happy atmosphere with many little snippets, as did Pet Sounds. But That Lucky Old Sun doesn't have snippets - it has full songs." The interesting thing about his latest work is that it's being released via Capitol - reuniting Wilson with his original home label for the first time since he was an actual Beach Boy. It'll be the follow-up to the Grammy Award-winning album Smile and follows a format narrated in transitional interludes spoken by Wilson as ‘That Lucky Old Sun,’ the storyteller. The narratives, cameos on life and the heartbeat of Los Angeles, propel the album’s musical story. Maybe you're a Wilson fan (like me) or maybe you think he's washed up genius (like some) - either way this should be a release to keep an eye on!

In the spirit of sharing (and in case you missed it), check out this sensational rendition of "God Only Knows" by Lyle Lovett last year when Wilson was the receipent of the Kennedy Center Honors. It was definitely the best performance of the evening and Wilson himself remarked, "I thought Lyle Lovett's version was the best version I ever heard, including the Beach Boys'. The most loving beautiful version I've ever heard. Unbelievable."
