Back when Santi White was first picking up buzz for her debut EP I Believe In Santogold, I wasn't totally convinced, nor was I when she released her self-titled debut LP. I read about the M.I.A. comparisons (which were merely superficial, though I didn't know it at the time) and brushed her off as a highly-publicized artist riding the coattails of M.I.A.'s success. I passively listened to a few songs, thinking "yeah but so what" and that was that, no sleep lost over this one for me.
That is, until Diplo released his latest Mad Decent mixtape, Top Ranking, a dub mix electrifying Santogold's more rockish, punkish songs into something that I could more easily, err... get down with. This thing's seen every end of the Internet and the blogosphere in the span of a few days, but I figured I'd give it a bump just in case any of you aren't yet convinced.
You've probably heard "Guns Of Brooklyn" which, despite my love for all things Clash, didn't exactly do anything for me. Yeah, it's a gimmick and barely anything more, but the rest of the mix is gold--no pun intended. Listen to a few tracks and decide for yourselves »
