[MP3] Matt And Kim: "Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare"

It's been over two years since we've heard anything from the love-em-or-hate-em Brooklyn duo Matt And Kim, but I was delighted to wake up and find a new song called "Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare" that premiered on RCRD LBL this morning.

[MP3] Matt And Kim - Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare (via RCRD LBL)

If you can get beyond Matt's annoying bad-for-good vocals and get to the center of the song--the catchy melody, the punchy piano and synth--you'll begin to hear everything blend together to form what what might M&K's most complete-sounding song yet, a tough feat for a duo that typically relies on little more than 3 instruments at any given time. By the end the vocals have blended with the synth, the firecracker beat and piano are inseparable... so you hit "play" again to figure out how they accomplished all this in a song that's barely three minutes long.

"Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare" is taken from the upcoming album Grand, hitting stores this fall.

listening to MP3s of this band is a poor choice. they really only redeem themselves live. if it weren't for their shows (best in intimate venues), they'd have gotten real jobs by now.

Great band live (saw them twice at SXSW). There is just something about Matt's patented arm-stretch while he plays the keys. Thank god for some new material because I have been getting tired of playing 5K on my iPod.

For those who enjoy hokie internet shows with bands, here is one with Matt & Kim on "Dinner with the Band" (the performances at the end are worth the watch):
