Born Ruffians are sorta like the sour patch kids in these hilarious commercials. First they're sour, then they're sweet. Once Luke LaLonde's piercing voice hits the airwaves, your windows might shatter and you might go deaf for a few seconds, but as soon as you adjust (unshrug your shoulders and unsquint your eyes), you'll see that Born Ruffians can be just as harmlessly entertaining as any marginally talented indie act.
That probably sounds like a jab... so if it is, just consider that maybe criticism of Born Ruffians has to be as sharp as their music, no matter which side of the love/hate scale you lean. In this case, I'm a fan of Born Ruffians boyish bro-rock. Sometimes a little pain is a good thing, and sometimes you have to work to enjoy something. That makes it all more rewarding after all.
Here's a new song from the upcoming, presumably self-released Little Garçon single/EP. If circus tunes are your thing (and seriously, whose aren't they?), you'll love this:
[MP3] Born Ruffians - Wedding Rings And Midnight Strollers
Little Garçon is out Sept. 30th in a variety of formats.
