[MP3] Beirut: "My Night With A Prostitute From Marseille"

It hasn't been relatively too long since Zach Condon entered the scene with the endlessly blogged "Postcards from Italy" which effectively made him an indie star in the blink of a few mustached hipsters' eyes... but still, he's come a long way from the balkan folk he initially showed us.

Now, as demonstrated by last year's Pompeii EP, he's taken a turn back to his real beginnings. You might remember a post we published tracing the true debut of Zach Condon under the alias The Real People -- that was The Joys Of Losing Weight, a collection of about 15 or so untitled tracks showcasing an entirely different electronic sound... the sound found on "Scenic World", something Eno would be proud of if he made another Green World record.

From the sound of Beirut's new single, the intimately-titled "My Night With A Prostitute From Marseille," he's begun leaning even more towards his synthy roots. This is the pinnacle of Beirut's re-found fascination, emerging as what sounds like an 80's Studio 54 banger, complete with Condon's trademark croon, although more disinterested-sounding than ever thought possible. It's a match made in hell for die-hard balkanites but perhaps something to look forward to for the Eno fans in the rest of us. Check it out:

this sounds like pure shit. i don't know what sort of hipster-crack you have to smoke to ACTUALLY convince yourself that this is "crooning." i would prefer to use "mooing," or perhaps "shitting uncontrollably from the mouth."

also, fruity loops 101 ftw.

also, that trumpet is stupid as hell. zach tries WAY too hard to be cute.
