Before I head out the door I have one band to (briefly) share that is somewhat perplexing. I'll start with their name, Filligar, which gives me zero idea as to what it means. Do they partake in a lot of friendly encounters with Mary Jane - are they filling their cigars with some magical grass? Beats me. The band has taken the age-old brothers formula to develop their act, utilizing the cohesion of a Hanson-like three brothers (plus a friend) to create some independent rock tunes. Yet much like the Ivy League bred band Vampire Weekend, those very three brothers can be found attending classes at Dartmouth until they graduate a couple of years from now. I think that's the main key to success for this band: graduating. They've got a solid musical base, have released three LPs in three years, and have their hometown Chicago and New England college tours in their back pocket. A few more years of growing, developing, and eventually graduating should sharpen the focus of their sound.

One thing this band does not need to work on is their artwork. All of their album art (one pictured above) stems from the creative mind of Kale Halperin - check out some of her vivid, psychedelic designs!

i love this band too. i am a big fan of vampire in weekend, but these guys do a completely different thing. i could see them hitting it big soon. i disagree about 'sharpening the focus of their sound' though. sure, they are all over the place in terms of their sonic vibe, but it's not like people only listen to one genre anyways... so i think it works.
Wow, Larry David has endorsed this band. That is a very very big compliment. He's the guy behind Seinfeld!!!
Thanks for bringing these guys to my attention. I've been on their myspace for days now... want to share my view about the sound inconsistency: genius. I'd love to hear more from these guys.
