It's no coincidence that Sub Pop finally made a promo MP3 available from Vetiver's upcoming Tight Knit the day after the whole thing leaks to the world. Sometimes you can play the market, but sometimes the market plays you. I haven't heard a thing from/about Tight Knit, but my interest is piqued after hearing this song:

There's probably nothing to this song that you didn't glean from the end of any number of romantic comedies or any given Buddy Holly song (take your pick), but what it lacks in originality and inventiveness it compensates with a deliciously catchy, simple melody that hasn't left my head since I first heard the song thirty minutes ago. A year ago if you had asked me to describe Vetiver, "adult contemporary folk" would've been the furthest thing from my mind. But if you can then take all negative associative qualities away from such a label, you might have Vetiver's new album in a nutshell.
Tight Knit is out on February 17th.
