I've been spinning the new Dirty Projectors LP Bitte Orca a ton lately and feel as though the proper thing to tell them is "Danke schön!" After their sets at SXSW, which were all centered around new material, the anticipation I had for their new album reached an alarming new level. I've been slowly enjoying Dirty Projectors more and more over the past year or so, starting in the sonic shallow end of the pool and tiptoeing my way to the deeper, more enjoyable sound waves. Their collaboration with David Byrne for "Knotty Pine" on Dark Was The Night sent me so deep into the water that I've fully submersed myself into Bitte Orca.
From what started as the musical adventure of a Yale dropout doing conceptual albums and re-imagining Black Flag's Rise Above, Dirty Projectors are now opening for the likes of TV on the Radio and have collided with their pop doppelgängers on their latest release. No doubt, they've had healthy and prosperous career growth so far and have continued in creating one of the more catchy tunes I've heard in "Remade Horizon":

After one, maybe two listens you'll probably start singing parts of this song without even knowing the actual lyrics. The melodies are so rich and catchy, I didn't even finish spinning this track completely before I found myself tapping my foot and joining in with "Yeaaaah I wanna!" It's a sensational blend of both Dave Longstreth's and (pretty) Angel Deradoorian's unique voice boxes, not to mention the frenetic guitar work and arpeggiated vocal breakdown that greatly enhance the track. Bitte Orca drops June 9th on Domino - I'm going to try to catch their June 11th show with TVOTR in Washington D.C., you should check 'em out!

Well, they've certainly gotten better since the last time I heard them. geez!
i thought rise above was a beautiful album. I first saw them in summer 2007 @ the Whitney, where they performed the whole album. The new stuff seemed a little half-baked when they first started performing it live, but they've really grown their new sound. (Angel Deradorian joined after the release of Rise).
