For many, this past week marked the 15th anniversary since the untimely death of Kurt Cobain and subsequent demise of Nirvana. It's hard to even think of such a date as an anniversary, the typical connotations associated with celebrating an occasion each year just doesn't fit within this context. For me, personally, Cobain was one of the most important catalysts in shaping my love and quest for new music. I can still remember getting a copy of Nevermind from my friend's old brother in middle school a few years after Cobain had passed away; after a few spins and a few weeks I had purchased every Nirvana CD I could find, printed out lyrics to every song, and slipped into a Cobain-induced coma almost everyday after school in my room.
Cobain was instrumental in catapulting my ears away from the radio and into an underbelly of independent music that, at the age of 12, I had no idea even existed. Some think he is an overblown icon who's legacy was fortified by his sudden death, while others would give anything to figure out just what happened in that Seattle green house. Either way, Cobain is forever 27 and we can all enjoy some fine Nirvana covers in commemoration.

Was Nirvana important to you or just another band in the books?

Really important to me. I remember when MTV news came on with Loder or Norris saying he was dead. Pretty devastating memory.
it was important in some way, to me, but with a significant delay (kurt was already dead), but i remember finding most interesting reading about kurt and his feminist beliefs and everything else he had opinions on
Douglas Coupland "Polaroid" chapter on Cobain's death describes it pretty well for me.
Forgive me some shameless cross promotion, but I posted a buttload full of Cobain (and related) covers, beginning here:

I didn't have that Richard Cheese one, though. Good stuff.
