We first heard about Animal Collective's long-upcoming "visual album" back in August 2006 and have since heard a few random updates and mentions of the project. We don't know much, but we do know that the album will incorporate new material from AC and will feature video footage shot by Danny Perez (who also did the "Who Could Win a Rabbit" video).
There wasn't a planned or announced release date, at least until now. According to a forum member of Collected Animals who ran into Avey after a show last night, Avey said they expect to release it by the end of the summer. Two AC releases in one year would be unusual although not unheard of (Campfire Songs and Here Comes The Indian were released within four months of each other in 2003).
What does this mean? Perhaps that 2009's year-end lists will include two releases from Animal Collective instead of just one. Bad news for Grizzly Bear who might have to compete with yet another AC release for the top slot ;-).
Here's a bonus MP3 for the hell of it -- a live recording of "Chocolate Girl" that AC did for a BBC radio session back in May 2008:
[MP3] Animal Collective - Chocolate Girl (BBC Session)
Previously: "Summertime Clothes" on Letterman | "My Girls" Unofficial Video | AC vs Beach Boys [MP3]
Random Update: According to this NY Times article on Grizzly Bear, Merriweather Post Pavillion has sold 97,000 copies. Discuss!

on the one hand 97k is a lot, hell of a lot more than they probably ever expected. on the other hand, i thought it would be alot more than that judging from how much press and promotion they've been getting on mpp
i would think more like 150k. it's crazy that yellow house sold 50k tho i guess the rhead tour helped. methinks veck will hit 100k
animal collective sucks
nice try on flame warring. that's all i'll say about that.
as for sales numbers, that 97k will turn into 150k soon enough, and i expect veck to hit around the same numbers... just a hunch
do you have the "Comfy in Nautica" they played during the same session?
