[MP3] new Paolo Nutini: "10/10"

A few years back I was charmed by Paolo Nutini's infectious single "New Shoes". Shortly thereafter I had the chance to catch the Scottish-born, Italian-bred singer perform a little diddy in the press tent at Bonnaroo (2007). His personality and pleasant folk-pop style made him easy to enjoy.

Nutini released his sophomore effort, Sunny Side Up, this week to an eager Europe and optimistic America. The LP is definitely quirky; it's apparent Nutini is trying to shed his skin somewhat and implement styles not heard on his debut. He takes his neo-folk sound and blends traces of American pop, big band brass, and reggae into the fold. A reggae Scottsman? Have a listen:

[MP3] Paolo Nutini - 10/10

Whether or not Nutini is merely experimenting or suffering from an identity crisis, "10/10" still contains enough pep and charm to retain your ear. The catchy brass and chorus drive the song, as well as the percussion assistance of Roots drummer ?uestlove. Nutini and his Vipers band are coming stateside soon for those needing a live sample.

Is that the same singer? Sounds totally different. Call me crazy, but why mess with success?
