It was only this past Friday news broke of Spoon preparing their sixth studio EP, Got Nuffin, which will mark the band's first release of new recordings since 2007's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. It's always exciting to hear new Spoon material, attempting to figure out which classic rock orchestration they favor (more guitar or piano) from release to release. If one didn't know what EP stood for, you might guess "experimental" by the sound of this release. Aside from the catchy lead single, Got Nuffin contains tracks with lo-fi electronic drumkits and others with spacey guitar/altered vocals. Although the EP releases tomorrow, you can snatch a sample listen to hear if Britt Daniel & Co. really are bringing nuffin to the table.
[MP3] Spoon - Got Nuffin
Spoon, proving their aptly titled EP wrong, definitely got somethin to offer with the lead track "Got Nuffin". There is something about Daniel's voice, both pitch and delivery, that is incredibly ear catching. His punchy verses demand your attention and blend so well with their various guitar or piano counterparts. This time around their sound leans more toward the guitar side of the equation, catchy riffs and slow build-up's abound. This makes me wonder, though, when will Spoon's next LP see daylight?
