[MP3] new Arctic Monkeys: "Crying Lightning"

Hope everyone had a great Independence Day weekend - if you didn't consume enough beer and grilled meats, don't worry.. I had you covered in my rare, fused state of gluttonous alcoholic. Lots of neat musical things unfolded during my absence, so enough with the chit chat and onward with the goods!

A handful of new tunes from across the pond surfaced over/after the holiday weekend, including a new Arctic Monkey's track titled "Crying Lightning". This is a band who came onto the scene in 2005 with more pop in their step and catchiness in their tracks than any other British band in recent memory. They oozed energy, enthusiasm, and originality that made them very hard to not enjoy. Yet, the greatest thing to experience regarding the Monkey's career lies within their continuous growth. With "Crying Lightning" you get another stimulating dosage of said growth, one many Arctic Monkey enthusiasts may not enjoy.. right away, that is. In fact, I fell into the same category upon first listen where the only echo heard within my ears was "eh".

After a few listens, though, I'm really really excited to hear their upcoming LP Humbug. The title of their upcoming release seems extremely suitable, especially considering this sounds to be a far darker and deeper sound than we've heard from the Sheffield-based lads prior. Alex Turner's vocals sound as low as they've ever been at one point while Matt Helders provides percussion fit for a marching army. If you don't like it right away, I urge you to spin it a few times more and see if the chorus doesn't get stuck in your head.

Humbug already has me humming along and hits shelves August 25th via Domino.

I'm looking forward to it! Favourite Worst Nightmare is required listening every couple of weeks or so for me. I hope they don't mix everything up so high this time around, though.
